[geheimnisvolle Geste]
Battlegroup: Operation EpsomDiving right into the fray of Operation Epsom - the British Assault over the River Odon and onto Hill 112 in the last days of June - our players had to fight over every inch of bocage.
With maps of the U.S. high command we were able to show the strategic context...

and the tactical theater.

For tables represented the hotspots of
- the Road to Rauray
- the Crossing over the Odon at Tourmauville (near Gavrus on the map)
- the British bridgehead at Baron-sur-Odon
- and the battle over the Town of Colleville
Players started with 500p and got artillery (British) and mortars (krauts) on top of that. Not to forget the varying reinforcements depending table and scenarios. While the Road to Rauray saw the historic clash and meeting engagement, all other tables started as defensive scenarios for the Germans. Depending on the outcome, a second round of games rotated the players around the tables and the scenarios were changed according to victories and defeats.
We had special rules for (not) looking for our 21 meters of Bocage, hiding in it and deploying hidden (German) troops in it during the game. Furthermore we modified the deployment with no initial tanks for the defender.
Our gaming aids were statcards, instructions for the main missions and secondary objectives like \"Saving Private Dancer\", constructing a bridge or evacuating wounded from a basement in Colleville.
The Road to Rauray
Fierce tank battles were fought in this rather open ground. And taking this beautiful Norman farm (which our club mate Moritz scratchbuilt) took lots of casualties. After an initial German victory the British unfortunately were not able to withstand the German counter-attack.
The Crossing over the Odon at Tourmauville
Here in the dense bocage a murderous close combat developed. The British were not able to overwhelm the defenders and during the counter-attack German engineers even managed to construct a Bailey Bridge to prepare for a future thrust.

The Bridgehead at Baron-sur-Odon.
A hell-hole. The initial allied offensive manages to drive back the dug-in Germans only to be halted by a counter-attack.

Those German medics were right at the frontlines - see this glorious aid... bus of our mate Strand!
The Battle for CollevilleWhat to say, what to say... The seemingly bored gentleman back there is an architect of this March\'s madness. He insisted on having a town. And he got it!

Germans close in on the town...

... and bring the tanks!

Among the deserted streets of Colleville and after initial British defeats, PIATS and Vickers MGs manage to halt the fascist advance.

An armoured car under Try McGimp manages to brew up a Panzer 4.

And beside a memorial of comrades of the last war a sargeant leaps forward: \"At them boys! Like in \'18!\"

Cheers!
