The people at WSS magazine are a very curious bunch (yes, probably probably in more senses of the word, but that doesn\'t matter now). Mostly, we are curious about this hobby and the people in it. There is always much debate about the health of the hobby, the age of the average wargamer, which scale or size of miniature is better and endless other questions. Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy, being a team of intrepid people, decided to solve at least some of these debates by way of the Great Wargaming Survey (https://surveymonkey.com/s/wargamingsurvey). And YOU are cordially invited to take part.
Joking aside, this won\'t take long (5-10 minutes), it\'s entirely anonymous, it\'s nothing every attempted on this scale and best of all, you\'ll have a chance at winning some great prizes (such as the books from Casemate and Osprey, the SAGA Great Hall from 4Ground, and a 1000 point British Airborne Bolt Action army). What\'s not to like? Just click here (https://surveymonkey.com/s/wargamingsurvey) and spend a few happy minutes contemplating your favorite pastime.
We\'d really appreciate your input!

Done!
Great Idea to do such an survey!
cheers
B
-
Thank you!
-
Done. When can we expect to read the results. Can\'t wait to read what is up with our community. Great questions by the way.
-
The survey runs through July. We may be able to publish a few results in WSS 74, but probably full comments will have to wait till 75. That\'s apart from what we\'ll publish online of course.
-
Done, very interested in the results, too !
-
Me too!
Oh, and thanks for the discount!

-
Thanks & that seems like the least thank-you for filling out the survey!
-
Done and interested in the results.
-
Great initiative, though I was missing some options in the answers. Very interested in the results!
-
Thanks! And if you have suggestions for a better survey in the future, please let us know.
We did cut the number of questions, answers and options down to make sure it was doable in 5-10 minutes (professionals I\'d asked for advice told me to make sure).

Done! :-)

Absolutely, it´s not a big deal, sometimes you have to make compromises - in this case it´s better to have a lot of people answering questions roughly right than very few giving very detailed answer. You can always do a follow-up questionaire on that later :)
-
Done. I did my duty for ... eh ... King & Country?
-
Done. But I think, it\'s duty for beer, brezel and world domination! ;)
-
Thanks and yes, that\'s the idea. We can always follow-up later but we need a baseline first.
Beer and pretzels sound good, yes. :D
-
Danke Riothamus, endlich habe ich meine Lebensmotto gefunden
-
Done also
Und stimmt, DAS ist mal eine Perspektive! :imsohappy_1:
-
Done and a great idea! I would have liked to able to have more options on some questions and one question not asked was \"What is your absolute favourite period?\", but that\'s just a minor point and other then that a very fun questionnaire and well done!
Christopher
Oh, one more thing I think the spending estimates were a bit low.... ^^
-
:D interesthing survey !! I think the questions were good.
-
Done, great survey...
-
Done.
-
As somebody who failed statistics I\'d be very interested in the outcome.
-
Thanks guys! Don\'t worry, when we have some results parsed, we\'ll make sure to spread the news!
-
Hm, with some questions I missed the box: Different answer, fill in here.
-
Which ones specifically Andre? I can\'t change it now, but I\'m also treating this as a learning experience. :D
-
Done

Thanks gents! Where else in the German-speaking wargaming world should this survey be announced? Any suggestions?
-
Perhaps
- http://www.tabletopwelt.de/ -> mostly fantasy and Sifi, but some historical wargamers too
- http://www.diefestung.com/forum/ -> Austria

After having taken part in the survey, I\'ve placed an announcement in the news portal of the GW Fanworld (http://www.gw-fanworld.net/content.php/1204-Wargames-Soldiers-Strategy-Umfrage-zu-Tabletops).
-
Much appreciated!
-
Let me put it on Brückenkopf tomorrow :)
Oh and done ;)
-
Thanks Dennis!
-
Done jasper. On question 9 i would like i had got checkboxes for multiple answers. Because for researches i use more than one source, like google or books. I use google, books and more. :-)
-
Yes, that should probably have allowed for more answers, but it did say \'mainly\'. 8)

Done, very interested in the results, too ! :smiley_emoticons_pirate2_biggrin: :smiley_emoticons_pirate_thumbs1:

I expect the result: \"You\'re all Nerds!\"
-
That goes without saying. :D
-
Oh come on - everybody is a nerd nowadays so what would be the point in this?
A result like \"You are boring normalos\" would be way more cool :P
-
LOL! I can tell you it looks like one result will be \"You young European continental wargamers are hip and happening\" (well, sort of) :P
-
I like the \'young\' in this sentence. :offtopic:
-
It\'s no mistake I assure you, and certainly true. The survey shows that - compared to the rest of the world - Continental European wargamers are younger.
-
Everybody nowadays WANTS to be a nerd, but that is not the same thing. From outcast underdog to the glamorous hip avantgardist elite of society, nerdness still is not the norm.
:)
A cool result would also be: \"You are all hermaphrodite greenskinned tentacleheaded umemployed locust abortion technicians with fascist-narcisstic tendencies \"
-
Ah, yes. I think that may require an extended survey with a few subtle, extra questions (such as: \"Can you type these 28 characters at the same time?\" and \"How pretty are you on a scale of 1-10?\")
-
11
-
I\'d only give options from 1-7 of course. :P

Careful here, I think you meant to say \"The survey shows that continental european wargamers that took part in the study are younger\" :P
Probably true in general though, I´m of the impression that continental europe catched the train later than the heartland of wargaming (US and UK), so the number of people who started the hobby early on is still younger than the average early adopters overseas.
-
That goes for everything said as a result of the survey. That said, with over 5000 responses (and about 1/3rd from Continental Europe), the sample size is getting pretty decent.

Impressive, thats very good turnout!

:)
I don\'t think that the term \"nerd\" is still valid in any sense. First, everybody\'s playing silly games these days or does silly \"fandom\" things and the term itself is only really used by lazy journalists or people who try to sell trash. :D
But of course that\'s all just off-topic chatter. Really eager to see the results of the big survey.

First, everybody\'s playing silly games these days or does silly \"fandom\" things ...
Perfect description of me :laugh1:
