In the meantime digital design continues with Samnites, Macedonian pikemen, Numidian cavalry and war elephants.
For those that follow our normal posting
ethos we will hopefully be showing images of our unarmoured Samnites in
the next 24 hours. Images of the armoured variants will follow in due
course.
Once the Samnites are complete we will move on to the Macedoinian pike men..
Both sets of armoured and unarmoured Iberian warriors plus Balearic
slingers will be with the tool room queue from early November but as of
now we don\'t have a firm release date.
Hier das angekündigte preview mit den Samniten.
Anyway please see attached our latest advert lovingly crafted by
Steve. This depicts renders of the forthcoming sets of Ancient Spanish
and also gives a sneaky glimpse of the unarmoured Samnites.
Over the next 24 hours I will post a more comprehensive set of images for the Samnites.

Noch mehr Render der Samniten und weitere Informationen zu den Releases.
Today\'s news is all about the next releases after the Ancient
Spanish. In a nutshell we will release unarmoured Samnites, armoured
Samnites, Macedonian pikemen, Carthaginian war elephants and Numidian
cavalry.
The Samnites and Macedonians will follow a similar
format to the Carthaginian Citizen Infantry. Each sprue/frame will
contain 4 bodies but will also include numerous head and arm options so
that there is plenty of scope for variety. The sprue/frame will also
contain various weapons including
swords, standard bearer arms, musician arms and various javelins. This
means that all the required command figures can be built from this
single frame. This works well for Victrix because it means we can speed
up releases as there is less to design and tool. It also avoids having
to either build a separate command frame and also does away with the
need for separate command figures manufactured in white metal.
Steve will continue to support the new releases with Little Big Men Studios shield transfers.
We will probably sell these sets with 24 to 28 figures per set but as yet no firm decision has been made.
I would also iterate that this new format will not apply to all future
releases. For instance should we decide to release ACW infantry or Early
Imperial Romans (just teasing) or something similar we would almost
certainly move back to larger frames with more figures and other
components. The smaller frame allows us to speed up the release of less
complex subject matter such as the Samnites.
I hope to be able to show off the armoured Samnites in the not too distant future.

A more detailed look at the armoured Samnites can be found on this post.
We are now cracking on with both sets of Macedonian pikemen and hope to
show the first rendered figure quite soon.

The advert below will give you a sneak preview of the new Macedonian
sets that will be released late Spring 2016. By making various changes
to elements of this set we will be able to offer our customers 3
distinct versions:
1. Macedonian pikemen including horse tail crests to create elite units.
2. Late Successor pikemen with later style Hellinistic helmets.
3. Hypaspists that will also include Corinthian helmets, always very popular.
I will post more images of the first Macedonian set later today.

Here is the Macedonian standard bearer that will obviously be part of the command sprues (officer and musician below).
Work will now start on the Numidian cavalry. News on this set will follow in due course.

Here we have some images of the Successor phalanx. There are plenty
of head variants in this set with multiple crest options. They include
Attic, Pylos and Thracian styles that work for Antigonid, Pyrrhic,
Seleucid and Ptolmaic Successors or later Hellenistic Greek armies.
Mixed with the heads available from the Alexandrian Macedonian phalanx
set there will be an enormous amount of options.
There will be trousered leg options of legs attached to bases that can be used to replace
the legs of the phalangite models and make them into Eastern trained
Phalangites as used by the Seleucids and Mithridates VI of Pontus.
Images of those Eastern Phalangite conversion options will be shown
next week along with the Hypaspist models. The Hypaspist set will depict
the Hypaspists in linothorax with Hoplite shield and long thrusting
spear. Very much like Greek Hoplites. We decided to include some
Corinthian style helmets with crest options in the set to give it
multiple uses as Greek Hoplites at the ready.

We have now received the renders of our forthcoming Hypaspist set. There is much conjecture amongst historians on the equipment carried butwe have decided to go with thrusting spears and the large Hoplite shield. For those customers who want to arm their Hypaspists with pikes this can easily be done by taking the arms from the Macedonian pikemen set.The helmets you see are decorated with horse tail crests which indicates a guard or elite unit. However, we will also be including Coirinthian helmets in this set. I am still waiting for the sculpting to be finished on these and hope to show these off sometimeover the weekend

The 2 images below are the final part of the latest project to complete our range of Greek and Macedonian foot troops.
The hoplites are made by combining the Hypaspist bodies with the
Corinthian head options that are included in the Hypaspists set. This
will enable customers to make them into Hoplites at the ready.
The Eastern Phalangites are made by removing the legs from the Successor
Phalangites and using the trousered leg options that are included on
the frame. The legs are attached to bases so this will be a very simple conversion.
The Numidian horse are next. After that I am not sure but perhaps a different period, at present no firm decisions.

Here are the first views of one of the Numidian Cavalry we are
working on for release mid 2016. Please note it is work in progress and
there will be a few sculpting tweaks required.
The set will
comprise 3 separate horses, 3 figures with interchangeable arm and head
options. We will also include a helmeted head, cloak and sword arm for
the officer, a standard bearer arm plus hand options for the shield arms
with and without additional javelins. Steve at LBMS will of course be
producing shield transfers.
The number of figures per set and the price are yet to be decided.

I have just received the 3 completed ponies for the Numidian cavalry
set and have been told the 3 riders plus all the arm, head, weapon
options will be ready by the end of the month.
Numidian ponies
did not have saddles or any tack other than a rope around the neck the
rider would pull to apply pressure to the windpipe.
The model is
done at medium pony size and is made a bit stockier than the actual
Numidian ponies which were smaller and more wirey. The reason for this
is for tooling and manufacturing purposes. We want to avoid thin legs
that would be liable to snapping.
The connections to the bases
are just rudimentary joins at present. The final joins will be done by
the layup guys who understand how thick to make them for plastic flow.
They will also split the models in half and core them out.

The release of the first Ancient Spanish set is likely to be in the
second week of February. The first set will be the armoured Spanish
comprising 40 figures with a mix of spears, 2 types of sword (the
falcata and gladius hispaniensis) and 2 types of shield (scutarii and
caetra). The mix of weapons and shields will allow customers a very
flexible approach to building their Ancient Spanish units with a nice
balance between heavy and light troops.
Steve at LittleBigMenStudios will be producing a range of Spanish shield transfers to compliment the range.
Following on from the armoured troops we will then release 12 man set
of Balearic slingers, essential for softening up the Roman units
opposing your Spanish/Carthaginian armies. This set will only be
available direct from Victrix.
The final release will be unarmoured Ancient Spanish infantry before we move on to the Samnites.

Iberische Kavallerie kommt!
Numidian Cavalry
Still a few tweaks to do and lots more heads
and arms to show at some stage but this in essence is the first of our
cavalry sets.
In the next couple of weeks we start on Ancient Spanish cavalry.

Well there is going to be quite a lot of news and product releases going on over the next couple of weeks.
The first Ancient Spanish set, probably unarmoured warriors, is likely
to go on pre order next week. I have attached to this post packaging
artwork to get you all in the right frame of mind to build an Ancient
Iberian force, one of Republican Romes fiercest enemies.
I will also be showing images of the first batch of Ancient Spanish shield transfers.

Today we will start work on our second cavalry set, Ancient Spanish Cavalry. I will show images in a few weeks time.
I am hoping over the weekend to show the first of the Spanish shield transfers. Keep checking Facebook, website Twitter etc.

I am pleased to announce that today we have released our set of
Ancient Iberian Unarmoured Warriors. In addition we have also released
the Balearic slingers.
To go with the unarmoured warriors we also have 4 sets of shield transfers.
The Armoured Iberian Warriors will probably be released in 3-4 weeks as we make a few enhancements to the tool.

For all those painters and gamers who like bright vibrant armies the
Samnites will appeal. There will be 2 sets, armoured and unarmoured with
4 figures per sprue and 6 sprues in the set. All the parts for command
figures are included in the frame. A total of 24 figures per set.
At some stage over the weekend I will be showing the completed digital
models of the Iberian cavalry. In keeping with the Iberian theme I have
also posted a few photograhs of the Armoured Iberian warriors.
These fought for years against the Republican Romans and also fought as
mercenaries for the Carthaginians so all in all very useful troops.
Responses to the last post raised a few questions about various subjects and I will try and deal with these in this thread
But before I do this I want to share with everyone images of the
finished Ancient Iberian Cavalry. The release date is uncertain at
present but I would expect sometime over the summer. The set will be
made up of 3 horses and 3 riders but with lots of head, crest, and arm
options so there will be plenty of scope for ensuring every figure and
horse looks unique. We will probably sell it in sets of 12 figures.
There are many posts about what people would like us to produce and in
an ideal world we would produce everything requested and give the sets
away free of charge. However, we live in the real world and therefore
time and commercial reality will dictate what we produce and how quickly
it can be done. Nevertheless, I will confirm the following:
1. We have not abandoned Napoleonics and I have already discussed with the
Head of Design both mounted and foot sets to be worked on in the autumn.
More news later.
2. I am hoping to announce a new range of
Ancients sometime in the next 2-3 weeks. This new series of sets are
already being worked on but I want to wait for an image of the first
render before making an announcement. I noted that there has been much
speculation on TMP with some potential good ideas and some not so good.
3. WWI will remain on hold for the foreseable future due to technical reasons.
4. Reworking our non digital sets is possible but not commercially
sensible so I am afraid Napoleonic Dutch Sappers will not happen.
5. Taking a digital model and turning it into something that can be
moulded in metal is not practical so I am afraid Campanian cavalry is
also a non starter.
6. Someone asked why I had not shown the
illustration of the Iberian Cavalry artwork. We have only just finished
the digital sculpting and these \"renders\" will be used as the basis for
the artwork. Be patient and all in good time.

The Samnites were a tribal group of the Oscan peoples that occupied
Central and Southern Italy. They were fierce warriors and in their many
wars with Rome they earned a high military reputation.
Samnites
fought in loose formations armed with javelins and sword, preferably in
hilly or wooded terrain. They were formidable fighters in close combat.
These fantastic and highly detailed miniatures are ideal as enemies of
Republican Rome or fighting as allies and mercenaries in a Carthaginian
army. They can also be used as earlier Italian peoples such as Lucani,
Bruttii or Campani.
Both sets of 24 figures will be on release at Salute 2016 at £17.95 each.

The New ancient range we are starting at Victrix will be Early
Imperial Romans. This is a period we have wanted to work on since we
started Victrix in 2008 so we are very excited about this and look
forward to showing more updates over the coming months.
We have a
render of one of the figures so far. Most of the work up this point has
been sorting the equipment such as helmets, shields, armour, weapons
etc... Now that is pretty much finalised (a couple of minor tweaks) then
the poses for other figures will come thick and fast over the coming weeks.
The plan is to do a set of Roman Legionaries in attacking active poses
and a set in marching/advancing poses for those who like their Romans
active and those who like a more linear look.
There will be pilum
and sword arm options, 2 helmet variants plus segmented arm armour
variants and some leg options with greaves. Some separate crests and
oval shields are being looked at to make Praetorians. We will see if we
can fit these on the frame or whether it has to be an extra set?
We
also want to put a few nice bits in there such as arms holding torches
and severed heads, this adds a nice touch for those doing skirmish games
and as you know we always like to give the customer extras and not just
the bare minimum.
There will be full plastic command frames and a mounted General figure will be produced.
Other sets in the planning are Auxiliary infantry attacking and
advancing, archers, cavalry and Scorpions (Possibly with an ox cart to
mount it on)
Steve form LBMS will be producing a large range of shield transfers for these figures.
Don’t worry about the Punic wars we are still producing sets for this
as well and will hop back and forth between the periods. The great thing
is the Numidian cavalry and the already released Balearic slingers can
be used in the Early Imperial Roman army.
We will also be returning to Napoleonics at some stage later this year.
Hopefully we will have a few more renders by Salute in a couple of weeks.

At first I did not want to show these images of the next two EIR
Legionaries because shields were not included and there are some minor
tweaks that still need working on. However, it is all about publicity
and there is no such thing as bad publicity in the crazy world of
wargaming celebrity.
Anyway as well as sleeping with my pet slug I am also going to share the next two EIR legionary figures (without shields).
The next development with this set is as follows:
One more \"action posed\" legionary figure.
Additional up armoured helmets for those that fought the Dacians
Segmented armoured arms (again Dacians).
Armoured legs (grieves.......yes the Dacians again).
4 separate marching figures.
All the command figures.
and then the next sets.....but we will give details on those later.

I think with the grace of God and a fair wind we will be looking at mid May for the release of the 3 sets of Macedonians.
Numidian cavalry is now at the tooling stage and these will be followed by the Spanish cavalry.
I have had a number of queries about the release date for the Early
Imperial Roman Legionaries. At present I anticipate the first set of
Romans will go to tooling in August with a potential release date
probably in November.
Numidian infantry renders
Here are some new renders of the Numidian infantry set we have been working on in-between the Romans legionaries.
The set will comprise 4 figures on a frame with arm, head and shield
options to make Numidian close order infantry or javelin skirmishers.
There are also command parts such as a trumpet, sword arm and standard
bearer arm to make command figures.
The infantry in helmets with oval Thureos shields represent King Syphax
and Jugurthas Roman trained infantry. They were an attempt to create a
close order fighting force. Still the majority of Numidian infantry
would have been light javelin armed skirmishers with a round hid shield.
We have include a few kit bashed renders to show you some of the
possible alternatives you will be able to make from this very useful and
versatile set of miniatures.
You can easily make more Greek
javelin men variants by adding Peltast shields and heads form the Greek
Peltast set and bare heads from the Spanish and Velites. By adding a
Roman scutums and helmets you can easily make troops for the slave
revolt or add variants to the Numidian close order fighting troops. They
could also be used for some Biblical warriors as well.
We will
now move back to working on the Romans and hope to be able to show the
marching legionary figures in about 2 weeks, it will then be on to the
Roman command.
