Hello folks this is my latest project I\'ve wanted to do for some time, but had other commitments that prevented it.So far this project has been difficult, but very fun to do.This is half of my first squad and represents a obergefreiter overseeing the placement of the squads MG 42 .The scene is taking place somewhere in Normandy.
Their background is from the 6th Fallschirmjägerregiment of the 2nd Fallschirmjägerdivision during their actions in Normandy and Holland commanded by Oberstleutnant Freiherr von der Heydte. The regiment at it\'s core was formed of veterans from Crete,North Africa and Italy with the addition of Luftwaffe ground personnel in 1944 at Köln-Wahn.At this point they acted more in the role as elite light infantry then actual paratroopers, because of the heavy losses the Fallschirmjäger units and battalions sustained on a para drop campaign in Crete. However, they did keep the honorific title Fallschirmjäger to instill a sense of being part of an elite formation.
They saw action at Sainte Maris du Mont,Saint-Mere-Eglise,Carentan where they fought so hard their enemy nick named them \"The lions of Carentan\",battle of the bocage,The raid on St. Germain-sur-Seves,Operation Lüttich, and finally Market Garden in Holland.
The Fallschirmjäger in this time frame is very nice for painters as it offers a chance to change up the uniform. Many of the veterans were still wearing the plain olive green jump smocks in addition to the splinter and marsh camo smocks with tropical and luftwaffe blue trousers becoming more common in addition to the standard field gray.As a result, the appearance of the troopers will be quite mixed for reasons given above.
A note on the luftwaffe blue trousers in that many historians contend this never happened, but with the influx of luftwaffe field units into the ranks I think it was probably likely and so a few will have them.
My blog has additional pictures and the test figures I did for each camoflage scheme for those curious. All figures are Artizan Designs which are my favorite for this period, although BAM does a nice product as well.
I hope some of you enjoy viewing this project .As always,I welcome your opinions. :sm_pirate_smile:

very nice!!!

-
As great as always Christopher  .
-
Absolut fantastisch! Wirklich hervorragende tarnung!
-

.Like I mentioned before I also wanted to try out the tropical pants to show a veteran of the Italian campaigns who hasn\'t had time, availibilty or the desire to get some fatigues in field grey just yet.I added more scratches to the painted metal and I hope it looks right.
I plan to mix up my entire platoon in various stages of fallschirmjäger dress from the period of the Italian campaigns up to Market garden. This is for several reasons in that I think it was quite likely they did appear mixed as from personal experience as an ex-soldier I know supply can be late in getting replacement uniforms and couple that with the soldiers desire to keep his best uniform in his duffel bag for inspections and his older stuff for field operations leads me to suspect I\'m not far off the mark.....hopefully.

@Everyone Thank you gentlemen for the wonderful support and kind words!! :sm_pirate_biggrin:

Yes,I know you prefer 1/72(of which yours are beautifully painted I might add :sm_pirate_thumbs1: ) and how you feel about Artizan WWII is how I feel about the 1/72nd WWII stuff. The nice thing is the market is large in this period and offers a wide selection of ranges to tailor to our tastes. :sm_pirate_smile:

My answer is just as Regulator posted in regards to the tropical trousers. Thanks Stephan for the help. :sm_pirate_smile: I\'m still not finished with all the combination\'s that I believe they presented of which by this time they presented quite an eclectic group of troops with a wide variety of dress and appearance. Still to be added is Heer splinter field coats,Field gray or olive green jump smocks(some veterans still had the originals),splinter trousers plus more.However,I\'m always open to questions and opinions so keep them coming. Thank you for asking as others might have been curious as well. :sm_pirate_smile:
My blog gives a fuller description of each Fallschirmjäger I did and a brief explanation of the uniform when needed if you are curious.

Danke! *adding a link to my Blog roll*

Oh,their is no question your asking is a completely valid question, because I haven\'t a color photo of a tropical uniform in France. My reasoning on the tropical trousers was largely supposition as a soldier to include some experience that I had, then any real factual evidence. For example in the first Gulf War in which I fought we in the 1st AD fought the entire war in woodland camouflage and were not issued desert camouflage until coming home! :pinch: :sm_pirate_lol: Supply problems and preference leads me to believe some some Jägers did wear tropical trousers, but I cannot prove it.Excellent question Tankred and so we will leave the tropical trousers at the door of guess work on my part and the painters use of artistic licence. :sm_pirate_smile: .......oh I can use them in Italy too. :sm_pirate_razz:

Sehr schöne Arbeit! :aok:
Weiter so! ;)
-

very, very nice!!!

Ganz ausgezeichnete Bemalung!

Thank you everyone! :sm_pirate_biggrin:

Yes, I\'m aware of the mistake and haven\'t changed it yet,but I will shortly.Thank you for the tip.

Which one are you talking about?

Blowing \"cough\" the dust \"cough\" of of this thread.
Operation Squad is running very hot these days within my gaming
circle(I\'ll give a review of the rules one day time permitting). In
summation we love the rules!! Disposable Hero\'s is still of Interest, but we prefer Operation Squad.
I noticed that I had too few Fallschirmjäger to play them properly the way I wanted so I\'ve painted up a few more.
What I had forgotten was how darn hard they are to paint with several
hours at least for each figure! However, I\'m pleased with results and
looking forward to adding them in my next game.
All are armed with Kar98\'s and in jump uniform.
From left to right:

schön, dass du deinen altren thread wieder auf machst mit neuen minis.
Diese sehen richtig gut aus.
Eigentlich wie immer!

This is such a great paintjob - they really look outstanding :thumbsup_1:
I just stumbled over the posts regarding the tropical trousers - I remember an grand grand uncle (or something like that) who was a Fallschirmjäger telling me that the wore bits of tropical equipment till end of the war even at the eastern front to \"show\" the fresh repalcements that they were veterans from the beginning ;)

Thanks guys! :)

-
Nice figs, Axe!
I\'m interrested to hear a littel bit more about Operation Squad, one can\'t find very much about the rules on the net!
-
They do look great, especially the camouflage is out standing, again! I have to agree with Tankred- the grass mat is ...ehm a little bit old school :P

Probably because I am old! :P The real reason is I\'m too darn lazy to set up a proper background for my pics. :blush2: I\'ll try and get better, but I cannot promise. ^^

I\'ll try and set up a review. They are the best WWII rules I\'ve ever played. I\'ve never had a bad game yet!

Operation Squad is designed as a 2 person game, although I suppose you probably could play it with 2 per side.
Also, are speaking to me or someone else?
