I\'ve started Saladin\'s(Salah ad-Din) Ayyubid dynasty army for Impetus. I\'m really enjoying working with the colors and the miniatures are an absolute joy to paint from Legio Heroica which I think are some of the best 15mm on the market.
The unit depicted here are Arab Lancers that can serve as Berbers, Kurds and Syrians equally.
Thanks for viewing :)

Nice one, I really like the Shield the second from right one
-
Perfekt !

stunning work for, not only for this scale! sm_party_popcorn

Hi Axe these guys are really stunning. The colours are so lively, and the tone of the horses is also great.

Thank you folks I appreciate the kind words! :)

-
They look splendid, great job Axe

Superb work, Axebreaker!
The bright colours are very well chosen and are perfect for these Ayyubid guys. Also the basing is very good.
I agree that Legio Heroica Figures are some of the best you can get in 15mm. They are a joy to paint because of the excellent modelling.

Thanks guys for the kind words! :)

Very nice paintjob, you almost let them look like 28mm figures  . I hope that the rest of the army will follow soon ;) -

Thanks. :) Unless I have a project due I really like bouncing around between projects so I don\'t know when I\'ll get back to this. It could be right away or months from now! :roflmao:

Those are lovely! Great, colourfull paintjob. The ottomans are going to be my next fog:r army for sure (sorry imps). The LH minis seem to be pretty nice, one question: Are the lances cast on the minis or can they easily be swapped with wire spears?

Thanks :) The lances come separate so you can use whatever spears you wish.

New addition here are some Sudanese archers. For these I used a watered down Devlan Mud wash that I applied carefully in the shadows and then a highlight. It\'s really helped speed the painting while maintaining a standard I\'m happy with.

Wow, I could add them to my army, you used the same basing technique.
I like them very much and got inspired by your cavalry. Mine isn\'t finished yet. ;)
-
Not surprised our bases look similar as the desert doesn\'t offer too many opportunities for variation. sm_party_box
Very happy I inspired you! :D Say the next Sud. in Erlangen(yet to be determined) I plan on doing a Crusades theme Impetus event and it would be nice if you attend. :)

Continuing on with my 15mm Ayyubid
Muslim army for the Crusades in the form of Turcoman Horse Archers
which are a main stay of the army of the period. Their lightning swift
hit and run tactics were a constant thorn in the side of Crusaders
until they got their own to counter it!

Their looking great and the colours are great. Especially the guy with the orange outfit. This hits the eye... :m_pirate_shock:
The base fits to the overall rest with its scarce tufts of gras. That´s the way outremer should look like...
-
simply stunning
ciao chris

Absolutely stunning work... in this tiny scale... I\'m jealous! 8)
-
Your choice of colors is truly inspiring... In every other context I would have doubted the painters sanity if he had told me about using all the colors of the rainbow at once, but those guys rock!
Great choice for 15mm!
-
I second that! Hard to beat the look of a well painted oriental army, be it Ottomans, Persians or this fine example here
-
Thanks guys I appreciate the kind words of support! :)
Christopher

Very nice job! Like them very much
-
The bright and shining colours of these guys are really great. Like them. 8)

Mamluks are the elite of my 15mm
Ayyubid army for Impetus. They began as slave soldiers before
eventually taking Nobles into their ranks were some even became Sultan!
They were not just deadly archers, but were equally hard in close
quarter fighting and in a large part defeated both the Crusaders and
Mongols to give some perspective of their qualities for those perhaps
not familiar with them.

Hey, some great figures you made there. Very interesting, that you chose to have them look as if riding by instead of charging into battle. Seems more right to me in case of cavalry archers, but still never saw anyone base minis like this.

your choice of colors is smashing !
... really like the \"rose\"
ciao chris

Der Wahnsinn! Eine der besten 15mm Armeen die ich je gesehen habe!!!
-
Thank very much for your kind words everyone!! :D
@Tankred
The banner is from LBM although I did paint the trim and the section that hold it to the pole. All the rest of the figures are hand painted as well. I\'ll try and remember to do a close up.

Next unit hot off the brush are Fanatic Warriors. In painting these warriors I decided to go with a serious and slightly sinister looking discipled
formation of warriors dedicated to crushing the infidels who invaded their
holy land. They look much harder then their profile really is in the list, but hopefully they will intimate my opponent enough! :P
As always thanks for viewing! :)

Overall amazing work ! Just checked out Legio Heroica and you are right their minis look fantastic.

Thanks! :) After I\'m finished with the Muslims I\'m thinking about collecting LH\'s Crusaders and then Late Romans and then Swiss and then..... Oh I\'m hopeless! :sos:

Nice looking Black Guard Christopher, and in general a very nice project :) . A ton of inspiration for my 28mm Fatimids  .
-
Thanks :) and yes the Moors Black Guard were an inspiration for this unit......too bad these guys are not anywhere near as tough as them though! ;(
Your doing a 28mm Arab army(low whistle) I\'d say you have your work cut out for you! :tomate: I\'m happy you found inspiration from this project and I wish you luck in finishing yours. :)

Very nice painted miniatures!
about the Crusaders and then Late Romans
Of course both ranges... :D (They have spring sale, so I ordered some late romans one hour ago... :S)
-
Thanks! :) If I hadn\'t already made a large purchase elsewhere I\'d be taking advantage of their sale right now, but I\'ll need to wait a bit to build up the cash reserve so to speak! :crygirl:

Don\'t worry, normally there will be a summer-holiyday-sale somewhen in the next months. ;)
The Swiss are also nice figures, but there are also the renaissance swiss by Khurasan (the Great Italian Wars also work with Impetus?)

Probably and I\'ll be there to take advantage of it! :)

The Khurasan Swiss are nice, but I think Legio Heroica are better IMHO, however from Khurasan I really like the Tibetans. 8)

Oh yes they work great for it and as a matter of fact Lorenzo(Impetus author) has devoted quite a few lists to it and a mini campaign.

A long return back to my Ayyubid army in the form of Ghulam lancers. The figures are still of course the lovely Legio Heroica range and the banner is from the superb LBM. All shields were painted by myself.
Thanks for looking! :)
