Foundry - macht Ernst.
« am: 18. August 2012 - 02:14:08 »

WHERE IS BRYAN ANSELL?
Neil and I have been wandering the web, having a look at what people are saying about us.
We were amused to see
that absolutely everyone seems to believe that my father, Bryan Ansell,
has been masterminding Foundry ever since we came back from Guernsey.

In fact, Dad left the
model soldier industry about seven years ago, when he turned fifty, and
hasn\'t had anything to do with Foundry since then. The last project he
was involved in was long ago; with Shane Hoyle and the Street Violence
range (we would like to find out where Shane is now: should anyone
know).

Since then he has spent
his time rebuilding and restoring his Big Old House, working obsessively
in his gardens and watching his children grow up.

(www.Stokehallweddings.com:
Spot me and Neil in a photo! See the hundred foot long mural painted by
Wayne England using only Foundry Paint!),

Apart from a couple of
recent visits with my grandad, Cliff Ansell, to see Neil, me, Steve and
Ronnie ( Cliff and Dad were quite alarmed to see the many and various
new models manufactured by Foundry over the last seven years), he hadn\'t
even visited the factory.

This may change in the relatively near future:
For some time, when we
are not filling orders or talking to customers, we are going to be
devoting all our time to organising the restocking all of the models
that were mysteriously discontinued from our ranges over the last year
or so. See the lists below. But once this is done, we will be ready to
start manufacturing new models. These will be in the style of the
Guernsey Foundry and Wargames Foundry of the Nineties when Dad was
running things. We are hoping that he will return to the fray and work
with the new/trainee sculptors that we will recruit to work in-house.

DISCONTINUED PERRY PACKS RECONTINUED AT LAST!
Hundreds Of Packs So Far!
Neil and I have finally
assembled this list of many of the ranges that (for mysterious reasons
way beyond our ken) have been victims of the disappearing pack virus.

The numbers on the list below indicate how many \"missing\" packs from that range we have found moulds for.
Please let us know if
you know of anything that we have omitted, we are aware that there must
be many packs and whole ranges going back into Foundry\'s distant past
that we know nothing about.

The majority of these rereleased models were sculpted by (the Marvelous And Amazing: respectively) Michael and Alan Perry.

We have moulds for all these packs to hand, and we will be very happy to cast the models for you.
If you get in contact with us about any specific packs you want, we can organise them getting cast for you straight away.
If our time zones overlap conveniently you might like to give us a call, otherwise drop us an email.
Ring us on 0115 841 3000 or email me at marcus@wargamesfoundry.com.

We will then dig out
the appropriate mould, get it nicely heated up and cast your models.
This may delay your order by an extra day.

We have been casting
these \"discontinued\" moulds for visitors to our factory, that way they
can handle the original rubber mould, with its special rubbery smell,
then take away their models still hot from the melting pot. Call us if
you want directions. Visitors are often taken by the contrast between
the coarse rubber moulds; grimy with graphite and chalk, the clunky
mediaeval ladles and splashy molten lead compared to the delicate detail
of the shiny final castings.

1,413 Packs Still to Go!
PACKS ALREADY AVAILABLE
British, Austrian and Bavarian Napoleonics
We have put the full British, Austrian and Bavarian Napoleonic ranges up on the website, and already have them hanging on our hooks ready to post out.
We are hoping to get the
rest of the Napoleonic ranges up over the next four weeks: Ronnie and
Steve are already most of the way through recasting the vast numbers of
discontinued French, and if we chain Alex to the blister packing device
we should be able to start posting them out one day next week.

We will be casting up more \"missing\" models every week if we possibly can.
As soon as we have stock of a pack we will put it up on this website and you will be able to order in the conventional manner.

In some cases, notably
the French Napoleonic range, replacement packs have been sculpted (not
by Michael or Alan), and these may well be regarded as redundant by our
customers. However we will keep them in stock, so that anyone finishing
regiments or armies will not be inconvenienced.

Bolt action
Our friends just over on
the other side of Nottingham: Warlord Games (an infamously rowdy gang
of exGamesWorkshop renegades and outcasts), are about to release Rick
Priestley\'s lovely Bolt Action World War II rules. They claim it will be out in September.

John Stallard\'s wild
promises of unlimited curry (see photo below) persuaded us to stay
behind very late in the Foundry factory on a couple of evenings this
week to make sure that our relatively small but perfectly formed World War II range was ready to relaunch in time for the game.

You\'ll find them here on our website. The Home Guard have always been particularly popular.

Embarassing Limited Edition Models Tragedy
During my dad\'s time
with Foundry, he tried to always have a new Limited Edition model every
month to give away to everyone who made a mail order. Almost all of
these were made by newly recruited sculptors who were often being
trained, or retrained, or eased into working in the Foundry style. The
sculptors made interesting one-off models that took their fancy and
challenged their skills. We will do exactly the same next time round.

This worked really well,
as rather than building mundane models that would just disappear into a
large range, the new sculptors knew that their pieces would be of real
interest to the hundreds of customers who ordered in a specific month,
be received with appreciation, and become a scarce item that was a
significant part of Foundry\'s history.

This spurred sculptors on to produce really interesting work at an early stage in their career with Foundry.

Unfortunately, at some
point between then and now, the old monthly Limited Edition production
moulds were dug out and used to remanufacture many of these models,
which were put on general sale, making them not as scarce as we would
have liked.

It is really sad and
that we have broken faith with all the people who should have each had
something genuinely unique and unrepeatable from a particular month of
Foundry\'s existence.

This leaves a sour taste. All we can do is apologise.
Hopefully, not too many
\"extra\" castings were made: they don\'t seem to have been promoted
particularly vigourously or identified as being unique.

So, we have destroyed
the production moulds of all those old Limited Edition models, no more
will appear to decrease the exclusivity of the originals.

However, we have a dilemma.
We have found about 85 packs: each containing eightspecial Street Violence models.
We probably should destroy these too, but we haven\'t got the heart to do so.
So, the first 85
customers making an order, who let us know they would like one of the
Street Violence packs, will get them put in their package for free.

Actually, as we have a
general aversion to melting nice models down, we will be giving away any
more of the old monthly Limited Edition packs that turn up here at the
factory in the future.

AND NOW, THE BIG NEWS ON OUR MASSIVE CHRISTMAS SALE!
Customers are already asking is about our forthcoming Christmas sale.
We have something to own up to.
We won\'t be doing one this year.
We know we\'ve done them
for the past few years: but we can only do massive discounts that bring
prices down below the cost of manufacture if we have overstocks or are
discontinuing ranges. This year we have no significant overstocks, and
rather than discontinuing ranges, we are planning to bring back all the
discontinued ranges from our past and wipe out the disappearing pack
virus forever.

Fortunately, we have an alternative to the Massive Christmas Sale that we think you will like much better.

Wait and see!

Ne, die fehlen schon seit ein paar Jahre und es sind ja eben diese Packs, um die es geht.
Diese packs werden im Laufe der Zeit in den Webshop eingepflegt, wird aber sicher eine Weile dauern bis das erledigt ist.
