Also meint ihr es liegt wirklich an solchen Filmen und Büchern! Klingt irgendwie plausibel... aber dennoch... schwer zu begreifen.

Mir war schon klar dass ihr die Waffen SS meint.
Aber ich seh halt da nen gravierenden Unterschied von Kriegsbeginn bis zum Ende.
Ich meine bei 900.000 Mann Stärke zum Kriegsende und über 2/3 Anteil von \"Volksdeutschen\" und Ausländern, von denen zudem ein Großteil zwangsrekrutiert wurde, kann von \"Elite\" in diesem Sinn ja nicht mehr die Rede zu sein. Ausrüstung hin oder her.

Aber ich glaube auf solche \"Details\" legt man dann eben nicht Wert wenn man eine \"Uber\" Einheit kommaniert! ;)

Ich finde es auf jedenfall toll wie hier in der deutschen Community damit umgegangen wird! :thumbsup:
Ein sensibler Umgang mit dem Thema und eine klare Position wie in diesem Brief sind genau das Richtige wie ich finde!

Alot of you are asking why there is much interest abroad in the SS?I think would like to use another analgy.Why are people so interested in seriel killers?The answer is that it\'s not vanilla,and it\'s out of the ordinary.In general people don\'t want to be seriel killers anymore then they want to be nazi\'s,but that doesn\'t stop people being facinated by the macabre.People wish to know why they did what they did and what was there sinister purpose.Look how many movies,documentry\'s,and short programs cover both subjects.In many documentry\'s they show the ss fighting against massive odds and only losing by weight of numbers.This only adds to the mystic of of the ss being crack fighters misguided by a warped sense of pride in a cult of superiority.Why do people dress up as vampire and not van helsing?I\'m not saying if it\'s moral or immoral,just an explaination as to why people think the way they do.(my opinion anyways :) )

As to why the German army is so popular to play in anyWW2 game is for several reasons I believe.Many feel their equipment and apperance was far more interesting then the other armies.Many found the capabilites of their equipment to be better.Their fighting style was facinating(Biltzkrig etc.),and fighting against the odds  is also appealing.Interesting enough,it\'s not just abroad that feels this way,take a look at my pole and here in good ole Germany they are the dominant army too. ;)

It\'s been interesting topic and one that has given me some insights into the various opinions that have given some good healthy debates.In my opinion that can only be good. :beer:

Zum Ende des Krieges war wohl kaum eine Einheit noch so schlagkräftig wie zu Kriegsbeginn. Soviel ich weiß stellt FoW aber auch (noch) nicht die Zeit des Kriegsendes in Deutschland dar. Ich glaube schon dass man bei der Waffen-SS im Rahmen der Armee-Listen zum Spiel zurecht von einer Elitetruppe sprechen kann.
