Real and honest input in the Gallery

(1/4) > >>

On a different web site a fellow member started this topic and I found it to be very interesting in the comments given.I started a thread of my own on the WAB web page and thought I would do it here as well.

The question is do you think real and honest input is being given in the Gallery? In addition, what is your feelings on criticism and how it should be used.

I\'ll start with myself and put myself in the crosshairs.

I think constructive criticism is a good thing and I welcome it personally.I don\'t think member\'s should criticize others unless it\'s asked for or it is clear they are seeking advice. The purpose being to help each other out.I also think if you criticize it should be constructive and if a negative comment is given, then a positive one should follow. The goal is to both help and keep them motivated.Too much nagative comments can demorilize someone,so make sure to point out what they are doing good.Normally,if the poster is not seeking advice and I don\'t like what I see, then I just do not comment out of respect.

On to the second half and this refers to the critic\'s themselves. When complimenting mini\'s I try and reserve high praise for models that really do impress me.I don\'t think it help\'s to say something looks \"incredible,fantastic,outstanding etc.\" to both great looking mini\'s and avarage to even less.I\'m refering to what is obvious to anyone. When comment\'s like this are given on a regular basis they lose their value.I\'m not talking about \"looks nice, good, etc.\"as these are fine and acknowledge the painters efforts, rather I\'m talking about high praise and keeping it\'s value.

I\'m curious as to what you think the goal of a Gallery is.I think the goal of a Gallery other then the obvious place to show your hard work and love of mini\'s and see what\'s there, is to learn and improve through questions and answers and some helpful insights in the from of genuine compliments and critiques.

Hello !

Well, I´d assume the praise is due to our above-average level of politeness. :D

For one thing, since one posts his images on a DISCUSSION board, one should be prepared to receive feedback, otherwise you could just have a website gallery.

Next, I personally reserve comments and criticism to those who either deserve or require it. Either way, it should be phrased politely.

Of course, Sweetwater is NOT a typical German board considering the normal level of discussion (although some attempts have been made to bring us down to that), so be happy you don´t have to post on boards like the Spamworld. There, ANYTHING is usually criticized and denigrated, even if it is perfectly acceptable, since their standards have become so skewed by the disgusting GW propaganda.

This I do not know personally as I have never looked or posted in Samworld or something like it.If for example they insult each other and throw around nasty remarks that have no redeeming value and is of little use then I\'m happy it is not done here. :)
One other thing I started this thread as a group thread and not singular.I gave my opinion first out of politeness to the subject I was asking. :)
What has GW propaganda done?I have not had much exposure to this \"Spamworld\" and I am unfamiliar with your meaning. Please help me out. :)

Grenadier Christian:
Generally, it appears to be common practice to consider anything not \"Golden Demon Material\" sub-par and not worthy of unconditionally positive remarks. One of my pet peeves is the concept of a \"tabletop standard\", which is almost as ambiguous as the Bush administration´s concept of \"terrorist\" (and sometimes, it appears, \"tt standard\" is used similarly pejoratively).

And they are a bunch of \"frothing\" loons when it comes to rules discussions. :D
