ECW
Axebreaker:
Perhaps I\'ll look into it. :)
Frank Bauer:
I don\'t think that ECW is in particular unpopular in Germany (or elsewhere in continental Europe). It\'s the Renaissance in general that is astonishing underrepresented.
I know dozens of players for ancients, dark age, world war II or other periods, but for the Renaissance I know only the brave guys from Spieleclub Mannheim who held up stubbornly the banner of renaissance wargaming :) Maybe there are a handful others.
And Axebreaker - you are absolutely right - the ECW is a colourful war with nice battles to recreate. No reason not to pay that!
vodnik:

@Frank Bauer
Your right on the Renaissance period not being very popular in general,but here in Germany the slant does go towards the TYW and understandably so as it\'s part of your history and culture.All I wanted to point out is that the ECW is both colorful and interesting.I just didn\'t like it being dismissed out of hand because of it\'s importance on worldwide basis.I believe as a wargamer a period must interest you in both painting and playing and anything else does not matter.
As for me, I have the typical wargamers problem in that to much interests me! :gamer: I always have a massive back log of models to paint! :dash: I love the dark ages and my favorite army is the Vikings in which I have one in both WAB and DBMM :phatgrin: .For WAB I own -Vikings, Imperial Romens,Carthagians,Ancient Germens,HYW English,Ancient Greeks,ECW-Royalists,DBA/DBMM-Vikings,Normens,Post Mongol Samurai,LOTOW Lawmen/Outlaws and if I had the time I would like an army for just about every book so far released for WAB + too many armies to mention for DBMM! :lol:
Thanks for pointing out the lack of interest in the Renaissance period,I believe they make for very nice looking games on a tabletop.Truely a period not to be missed by dedicated figure painters! :)
holger:
I am from Dortmund and played my first game using the ECW WH rules last friday. And friend of mine of the Dortmund Amateur Wargamers and me tried out the rules the first time. I collected so far the miniatures of the ECW and he tried more or less to collect minis fitting the TYW. It is no problem to use most of the figures for both wars I guess, especially if you play the later TYW period. If you want to try a more historical correct approach you should at least change the banners :D
In WI is currently a series for additional armies and rules for the TYW using WH ECW rules (started december 2007) which looks promising.
So if you find someone playing the TYW some scenarios for the ECW would be no problem. Unfortunately we live a little far from each other.
