You’ve been asking us about this staple of German armoured formations for a while so here’s a taster of things to come! The Panzerkampfwagen IV (Pz.Kpfw. IV) or Panzer IV was conceived by Heinz Guderian. This medium tank was originally imagined to be be used for taking down fortifications and to serve to take out enemy anti-tank guns. However, as the war rolled on, this tank became a workhorse for the Wehrmacht and eventually accounted for almost 30% of their armored force. Although often overshadowed by wargamers by the ‘Big Cats’ such as the Tiger and the Panther, the Panzer IV was an effective and deadly weapon on the battlefield. As such, every German commander is going to need his own formation of these armoured vehicles on the tabletop! As you can see from the images, the Panzer IV isn’t quite finished yet – we weren’t happy with the running gear so that’s being modified at the moment.
