New: Plastic Viking Longship

Have we got a surprise for you! We now have a 1:50 scale plastic Viking Longship kit available. Ideal for landing your Gripping Beast plastic Vikings ashore!

From the end of the eighth century AD, Vikings originating from
Scandinavia regularly appeared in Great Britain and on the European
mainland on raiding expeditions in their Longships. These highly sea
worthy fighting ships of around 65 feet in length had a bow at both
ends, enabling them to beach and/or launch in either direction. The
shallow draught of only 5 feet also gave the Vikings the option of
sailing or rowing up inland waterways and rivers, allowing them to raid
areas deep in the hinterland. With these fast (a speed of 20 knots) and
very manoeuvrable fighting ships also known as “Dragon Boats”, the
Vikings ventured as far away as Iceland, Greenland and even North
America, as excavations at settlements have proven.



This 38.5 cm long, 24cm tall plastic kit contains:

- Two-piece wood grained hull

- Large area deck parts with many engraved details

- Typical Dragons Head

- 64 separate, individual shields

- Anchor and 32 Oars

- Structured Sail

- Mast, Yardarm and thread for authentic rigging

- Two piece stand

- Comprehensive set of decals for all shields and the sail







The vac-formed sail and rigging will really make this kit stand out, giving you lots of options for modelling.



For those who don’t want to go blind painting each of the shield
designs the kit comes with a lovely waterslide decals sheet – feast your
eyes on these! There’s even one for the sail too!

Preview: Our next plastic period!

You’ve waited patiently for us to unveil
our new plastic period – well, not all that patiently at all but it does
show how excited you all are! We’re very pleased to be able to show off
the fruits of our labours – Napoleonic Prussian Landwehr!

As you probably can’t tell from the photos these are one piece
models! Many of you have expressed a concern over the number of parts
some sets contain (although a lot of you love the variety and modelling
opportunities) and the length of time it takes build them let alone get
them painted and onto the tabletop. We’ve heard your pleas and these are
ready to paint straight from the box!

Our old mates, the Perry twins are taking care of the Prussian Line
regiments so you’ll soon be able to amass quite a force of Blücher’s
children between us!

The facings and trim on the caps and
longcoats of the Landwehr denoted the region of Prussia they were raised
in as you can see from the 3 examples shown here. The box contains many
different full-colour flags from a variety of regions giving you plenty
of flexibility for your Prussian army.

The Landwehr were Militia formed from teenagers through to men in
their 40s. They were plucked from their fields, shops and offices and
enrolled into the Prussian military machine to enlarge the forces that
could finally depose Napoleon, the tyrant of Europe. Prussia was a
small State but her armies were well trained and burning to avenge
their past defeats. The Landwehr consisted of over 60 battalions and
were equipped and trained as time and money allowed. A cheap but warm
coat, comfortable cap and a musket was considered uniform enough to
get enough troops out into the field for the restricted Prussian army
of the time.




The Landwehr fought bravely in the latter wars of the period,
fighting hard in the 1813 campaigns and ultimately at the crescendo
that was Ligny and Waterloo. Ill-equipped and half-trained they may
have been, but after a few months had sorted out the wheat from the
chaff they went on to fight with determination alongside their
brothers in the Prussian Line regiments, their very innocence at war
sometimes spurring them on to great things with patriotism being what
it is!

The boxed set comes with a metal command group of officer, standard
bearer and drummer. We will, of course, have even more command options
for those who wants more variety as well as more supporting metal
models and also more plastics…

We expect these lovely miniatures to be

Ist ja ganz nett, dass die Herren sich absprechen, auch fĂĽr die Bastelfaulen Plastikfiguren aus einem StĂĽck fabrizieren wollen, aber das geht ja nun wirklich auf Kosten der Details...!
Lieber klebe ich 4 Teile zu einer Figur zusammen, als solche unförmigen Pranken zu haben!!!!! Da bin ich jetzt schon etwas enttäuscht, und hätte lieber Landwehr der Perrys gesehen...

Die Hände sind mir auch sofort aufgefallen, sowas erwartet man eigentlich nur bei GW \'heroic scale\'. :S

Was hat denn Mehrteiligkeit mit dem Design zu tun?

Also bei den Posen bietet sich Einteiligkeit ja an, die Hände hätte man ja unabhängig davon etwas zierlicher gestalten können.

Ehrlich gesagt, glaube ich nicht, dass die Perrys die Landwehr auslassen werden. Könnte halt eine Weile dauern. Aber, wie schon öfter angemerkt, ich möchte den unter uns sehen, dem bis dahin die Vorräte ausgehen. :whistling:
Bezüglich der Hände bei diesen Modellen kann man vielleicht einiges durch die Bemalung retten - mehr Gewehrkolben und weniger Daumen zum Beispiel. Im Übrigen sind die Hände auch bei Perry-Figuren echte Problemzonen.

An der Mehrteiligkeit scheiden sich im historischen Bereich die Geister. Die Hälfte von meinen Spielkumpanen findet es gut und die andere Hälfte ärgert sich drüber. Ist unterm Strich genauso geschmacksabhängig wie die WF /WG- Frage.

Wäre wirklich schade wenn sich die\"Mafia\" wirklich abgesprochen hat und es die einzige Landwehr bleibt.Hoffe und denke aber mal das die Perrys eigene rausbringen werden.Und da ich eh genug an Zinn hier rumliegen habe warte ich gerne.
