Kingdom of Denmark

Kingdom of Denmark

Whilst the Kingdom of Denmark has neither the wealth nor the power to defeat the great naval fleets that take pride of place in the militaries of the other Great Powers, the nation has nonetheless managed to defend its shores in spite of its tenuous position, sandwiched between the Russian Baltic Fleet and the seemingly invincible Britannian Navy.

In no small way this safety is the result of the Danish navy’s on-going efforts to deny access to its native waters. This has not been achieved by investment in great fleets of Dreadnoughts or battleships, but in a far more modest weapon – the naval mine. A simple, metal shell, holding upwards of a ton of Sturginium-enriched dynamite. It is a simple danger to even the mightiest of vessel.

This weapon is put to sea by Denmark’s little saviour, the Korsor Class Minelayer. Although only a small ship, comparable to the Frigates of other nations, it has proved an invaluable war machine since the outbreak of the war. Armed with an automated mine laying rig, these ships manoeuvre in large numbers, denying entire swathes of the battlefield to the enemy, forcing them towards bottlenecks where the Allied-Danish fleet can fight them on an equal footing.

Although specialist in its role, it also pulls its weight as a combat vessel in its own right. By virtue of its design and powerful engines, the Korsor can make a great turn of speed. This, combined with its single powerful 10” deck gun, make it a aggressive raider in the tight confines of the Baltic Sea.

The Skagerrak Class Gunship is regarded by many as one of the primary factors that is preventing the Russian Coalition’s Baltic Fleet from breaking out and making its way out to the North Sea and beyond.

Kingdom of Denmark - Skagerrak Class Gunship

Although little larger than the cruisers which, in their hundreds, make up the bulk of the fleets of the great powers, the Skagerrak is the finest fighting ship that the Danish Navy currently has to offer. Designed and constructed by the Danish themselves, but based upon technology developed by Prussian scientists, the Gunship exemplifies Denmark’s approach to warfare. Namely, a distinct effort to make up for lack of numbers by the use of advanced modern technology, battlefield-control tactics and the specialisation of its warships for operation in Denmark’s narrow home waters.

As is clear to anyone who has studied modern naval architecture, the design of the Skagerrak is heavily influenced by that of the Hussar Class, the primary class of Gunship currently in service with the Prussian Reichsflotte. However, the design differs greatly in a number of very key areas.

The super-firing turret and tesla generator of the Hussar class have given way to a large Ultrasonic Pulverising Generator, or U.P.G, purchased from the Prussian government. With these weapons the Danish navy has had a great deal of success crippling the crews of Russian warships to the point where they cannot operate any longer.

The hull of the ship has also seen a great deal of revision, been totally redesigned into a shape that reduces the turn radius of the ship as much as possible, in order to increase the ships manoeuvrability in the tight confines of the Baltics. This has truly paid dividends, allowing ships to operate with full effectiveness in waters totally inaccessible to larger enemy shipping.

Finally, a fully automated mine laying rig is present at the rear of the ship, allowing the Skargerrak to conduct battlefield control operations alongside its smaller Minelaying cousin, before steaming off to engage the enemy.

Made of Steele

We had a lot of fun developing the iconic Federated States of America John Henry Class Robot, a particularly fun model to make. At the time it was discussed that a ‘walking’ version of him would be a fun model to design.

As discussions grew Alliance Nation models it was agreed that the Dominion of Canada could have a walking robot, and so the Steele Class Assault Robot was born.

Dominion of Canada - Steele Class Robot

Design wise it was essential that we distinguished the two robots in our own manner. Being an Allied Nation the Dominion of Canada does not necessarily have access to cutting edge propulsion technologies required to make a robot fly, and may not be able to afford to fuel the thrusters for prolonged combat. This new version is relegated to beating feet with the grunts, though standing over two hundred feet tall his strides make quick work of closing the distance between him and the enemy. In addition, it has an exciting new weapon choice; the flamethrower.

This robot is a little shorter and can clearly be identified as a simpler implementation of the same technology that went into John Henry. As such, its simpler style shows it as an older model lent or sold to the Canadians as the FSA trundle on with their own developments in massive robot technology.

The final product is not only an exciting new variant of the flying robot we all know and love, but a terrifying addition to the battlefields of Dystopian Wars.

> Als Briten-/Canadierspieler freut es mich ja tierisch, dass wir endlich unseren eigenen Robot bekommen. ;)
