Project Trojans for TTU Chariot Wars Campaign(update 07.07.10)
« Antwort #15 am: 25. November 2009 - 14:39:26 »

@Everyone
Thank you very much gentlemen,your comments help keep a fellow gamer on course. :D

@Frank Bauer
Indeed you are correct Frank in that army painter offers a chance to paint large armies in a reasonable time and to a decent standard. ;)

@Mad Mö
Chariots will be a bit later as I first want to do some more infantry to get some more practice in.I still haven\'t quite figured out how much army painter to use to get the best results.I want to be comfortable with the process before doing chariots as they will naturally be the focal point of the army. :)

Cheers

@Leongegrande

Not only that Olaf,but the thrusting spear looks better! :thumbup: However,I did want a mix of early and later Trojan equipment to more reflect the period I choose for the Trojans and so I plan on having one with and one without.
I was thinking the General and his unit of chariots would be armed with thrusting spears to symbolize the \"old guard\" who are set in their ways and a hero leading another chariot unit with the lighter equipment to represent the young nobles trying out the latest war gear. ;)

Cheers
Christopher

P.S.My agents will slip you an extra gold nugget for your useful information. :ninja:

Here is my latest addition of some chariot runners and slingers.No fancy shields with these guys.Here you can see army painter as is without any fancy work to hide behind.I\'m not completely happy as I\'m still learning to use army painter and I haven\'t quite got the mix right just yet,but it\'s coming along.The nice thing is these guys painted up quick even adding a couple highlights and that in itself is a motivating factor. :sm_pirate_smile:

All right, very nice! AP gives a very smooth finish. You could probably use GW washes with the same results and less drying time, especially if you paint over the layer of shadows later on?

Ty Tom, :) but you should know I touched up the flesh real quick after applying the army painter using the base color again. ;) I still need to work on getting the army painter into the folds and crevices more effectively.I think its a bit to less at the moment,but to much will also darken it more then I want.I just need to keep practicing.
A fun unit is up next with the Sea People who are quite colorful and so I\'m interested if I will get it right.

Good God, that\'s quite a bunch. AP really seems to work with Mediterranean flesh tones, and the coloured clothing adds nice highlights to the unit.  :thumbup:
Looking forward to your interpretation of the Sea People.

Here is my latest edition in the form a unit of allied Lukka Pirates(Sea Peoples) to support my Trojans.These guys were fun to paint up and I quite like the colorful nature of the unit.I tried adding a bit more army painter then last time to help raise the detail and added a few quick highlights to further define areas.I\'m happy with skin tones here more then the other units. :) Again,most of the shield work is hand painted except the bronze studs with have army painter applied.
Next up are....Chariots!The staple highlight units of the period in question.I\'m looking forward to seeing how they turn out. :)

Here is my new addition with the King and his retinue.He is wearing a scale armored suite that goes to his knees and is
carrying a sword to make him stand out further.His retinue of
charioteers are armored in the older fashion of Dendra panoply armored and thrusting spears because the king favors the jousting style of
combat.
I continued using army painter with quick highlights except the box cab where I did the cow hide pattern by hand.The white steeds I also did in a gray and white scheme as army painter just didn\'t work on that much white.
One more chariot unit and infantry unit and I\'ll be ready for TTU! :sm_pirate_biggrin:

Very well done again, they look the part.  :thumbup:
Used the \'Nestor\' chap as an army general myself - admittedly, he\'s the only charioteer so far as painting horses and fiddly chariots drives me crazy. :wacko:
You might have tempted me to try this dipping method once again...

Thank you guys. :sm_pirate_smile:

I\'ll tell you what Antipater the dip method has opened up a whole new aspect to my modeling and gaming.I can now realistically have a chance to both paint and play the miniatures I own and that is a very nice feeling indeed! :sm_pirate_biggrin:
I\'ve divided my collection of miniatures into two parts to satisfy my wants and desires.Part of my collection of armies I paint my normal method of high detail work to satisfy my desire to have some quality miniatures and the other half I use army painter on to actually get some armies finished. This is working well for me and keeps me in balance where I no longer feel like I\'m treading water anymore.The only problem I have is which armies to do with army painter and which ones to do quality work on,but that\'s still much better then before were I couldn\'t finish anything. ;)
