CoA-Spieler werden ja richtig verwöhnt...

Covenant of Antarctica - Herodotus Class Mobile Airfield

When Lord Barnabas Draynes Sturgeon led his famous expedition to the fabled Vault, he took with him scientists and scholars from every nation, from every field of research and school of thought. Physicists, chemists, engineers, biologists, all of them taken to be a part of the utopia Sturgeon had envisioned, a future guided by reason and logic, free of nationalism and the petty squabbles of kingdoms and empires. Even after war broke out, and the realisation of that utopian vision halted for the time being, Sturgeon still remained faithful to the idea of a society guided by scholars.

In readiness for the world war, all branches of science were drafted into the conceptualisation of military vehicles. You need only look to the land vehicles deployed by the Covenant of Antarctica to see how the many entomologists who joined Sturgeon have lent their minds.

The Herodotus Class Mobile Airfield is truly a monstrous envisioning of the future of warfare, this arachnid behemoth strides across the battlefield on its four colossal legs. Its thick metallic carapace, infused with stabilised Sturginium ores, shrugs off the pattering of machinegun fire and the crack of artillery as it moves into position. Once there it raises its massive thorax, the armoured launch racks concealed within firing wave after wave of drones into the sky, a serpentine mess of machinery within replacing the drones almost as soon as they are launched. Nestled within the abdomen of the Herodotus is the telltale torus of the Covenant’s most deadly weapon; the Particle Accelerator, capable of launching deadly salvo strikes into battle.

It was quite a process making the Covenant Herodotus, since with the exception of the screw driven bombard, all their land vehicles are walkers. Not wanting to dilute the armoured crab design of the Land Ship we decided on a more arachnid shape for the mobile airfield, having the large thorax as the launch device made the most sense out of some of the wackier options that came up. Spider tanks are dotted throughout a lot of science fiction, seeping into almost every sub-genre, including Steampunk.

The final model is a unique mechanical beast and one that Covenant players will, I hope, enjoy crushing their enemies with. For me, this hulking mass striding across a tabletop, handing out death and destruction to all about it really does sum up land warfare in Dystopian Wars.

Prussian Empire - Seydlitz Class Mobile Airfield

Sometimes, when an idea sticks in your head, you just can’t get rid of it. That’s what happened when we had the planning meeting for the Mobile Airfields. One excited comment, and I found myself designing the Seydlitz Class Mobile Airfield as you see before you. I mean, who would have thought that a comment like
“hey, why don’t we make it look like a giant Iron Cross rolling across the battlefield” would get the boss so excited.

As you can see, the idea stuck and I had to go away and make a giant Iron Cross that rolls over the battlefield, crushing all before it and launching waves of Kondor fighters to strike at enemy targets. The Empire of the Blazing Sun Mobile Carrier I designed is still my most complex model, but the Seydlitz, which I named after the Prussian Cavalry Commander Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr von Seydlitz, took a lot of thinking about! My sketchpad was well used that week.

The crossover landing strips slot together simply, creating the symbolic Prussian cross, and I went for a beefed up hull with nice angular edges. Plenty of Tesla weaponry and this behemoth is ready for action in the New Year. All in all I am really pleased with the model, and I managed to keep the boss happy.

Zitat
With our latest releases hitting gaming tables around the world, some of the more eagle-eyed Commanders out there may have noticed that the scientists, both home and abroad, have been working overtime to improve their machinery of war. And while the boffins of the Federated States of America have been concentrating on fitting a huge artillery piece to their Gunship, the other Nations have been making more encompassing tweaks to their beloved moving arsenals. This blog details a couple of the improvements that are being made to Dystopian Wars.

The Prussian Empire has been making advancements with its Tesla Coil technology.

From this point onward ALL Prussian Empire Tesla and Tesla Coils weapons have the following Model Assigned Rule (MAR) associated with them (regardless of whether it is listed on the Stat Card owned by the player, or not):

REDOUBTABLE: Any weapon with the Redoubtable Model Assigned Rule only reduces its Attack Dice (AD) by 1 for every 2 Hull Points (HP) of damage taken.
Empire of the Blazing Sun\'s Flag

Empire of the Blazing Sun\'s Flag

The Empire of the Blazing Sun have taken strides towards improving the mobility of their Naval vessels.

From this point onward ALL Empire of the Blazing Sun Naval models have the following Model Assigned Rule associated with them (regardless of whether it is listed on the Stat Card owned by the player, or not):

SHARP TURN: This model can Turn during the minimum move made at the beginning of its activation, rather than moving DIRECTLY ahead.
Kingdom of Britannia\'s Flag

Kingdom of Britannia\'s Flag

The Kingdom of Britannia have put their faith in the invention of a new Generator that will be making an appearance on suitable vessels within their Fleets.

Classified information on the Guardian Generator is detailed below – don’t read it if your security level isn’t up to snuff:

Guardian Generator

Esteemed Britannian Physicist Eugene Parker is the creator of the Guardian Generator, an invention that many in the Kingdom of Britannia military believe will save thousands of lives during the world war. This enhanced generator, which has become nicknamed the Big Brother Generator by Britannian crews, allows a vessel to not only protect itself, but to cast out a 6″ diameter defensive veil of protection that other models can shelter under. Parker started work on the Generator the day he received news that his only son, Giles Parker, had been killed in action following a naval engagement with Prussian forces south of Greenland. The Frigate his son was serving on was shadowing the Battleship Selenga when a salvo intended for the larger vessel struck the Frigate, destroying it with no survivors. Eugene Parker vowed that day to create a Sturginium powered Generator that would save the crews of unprotected vessels during combat.

The Guardian Generator grants the model it is fitted to ALL of the effects of a single Shield Generator. Roll 2D6 Shield Dice for each Guardian Generator:

‱ Against Gunnery Attacks, AA and CC, a roll of 4 or 5 results in a success which cancels one hit against this model.
‱ Against Rockets and Torpedoes, a roll of 5 results in a success which cancels one hit against this model.
‱ A roll of RED6 always results in a success which cancels two hits against this model.

The Guardian Generator also grants ALL nearby Friendly models WITHOUT a Shield Generator a limited amount of protection. Roll 1d6 Shield Dice for any model, without a Shield Generator, that is hit with an attack, within 6″ of the centre of the vessel fitted with the Guardian Generator:

‱ Against Gunnery Attacks, AA and CC, a roll of 4 or 5 results in a success which cancels one hit against this model.
‱ Against Rockets and Torpedoes, a roll of 5 results in a success which cancels one hit against this model.
‱ A roll of RED6 always results in a success which cancels two hits against this model.

A model can only gain the effect of ONE Guardian Generator at any one time.

Tip: ruhigere KamerafĂŒhrung, bitte. Mir wird sonst schlecht. Man muss nicht stĂ€ndig was anderes zeigen. (Überhaupt nicht böse gemeint, aber das erste, was man bei Videos lernen muss, ist, einfach mal laufen zu lassen.)

Weitere Verbesserungen

Zitat
On December 16th we posted online our first State of the Nations blog for Dystopian Wars, and one section, in particular, generated an amount of discussion on our Forum. The subject was that the minimum movement of a vessel in Dystopian Wars must be directly ahead.

We’ve referred to this as a ‘clarification’, and not a rule change, because it was the intention of the original design that this rule be in place, and so areas of balance were created with this in mind. However, the rule was not clearly signposted, and some gaming groups were split on its use.

While play-testing the current improvements being presented for Dystopian Wars, we looked to ensure that all of our playgroups were playing the minimum move rule the same way. Which meant that we also had the chance to ensure that this was indeed the right way to play the rule. It didn’t take long for the positive feedback to come back, and of particular note was the way it provided a perceived fix to some of the issues certain groups were having with particular models now that they were using the rule the way we had originally intended it.

This sort of fix we often refer to as a soft fix – a solution to a number of smaller issues via a single change, which is not directly related to one particular model; as opposed to the hard fix of changing point costs or stats on a model. The knock-on effect of a soft fix, however, often has far greater implications than the more constrained tweak of a numeric value, and these implications won’t always be immediately obvious.

While some models have received hard fixes in various places, it’s the soft fixes that will often have the longer-lasting effects.

Which is a neat way to segue into briefly discussing changes made to the Stat Cards

Where hard fixes were still justified, after the core rules received their amendments, we’ve tweaked the Stats. Some of these tweaks are for the sake of consistency, and some are quite minor, but a few will stand out as being very important for their Nation.

We’ve also made a PDF of the updated Model Assigned Rules available (just the rules, not the character text, for easier consumption). It’s worth reading these when referencing the changes to the Stat Cards to get the full picture.

As a final point for today, something raised on our forums was that the online part of our community covers only a small cross-section of our complete player base. This is something we’re acutely aware of, and we do have plans to ensure that our players who don’t regularly frequent our website won’t be left behind. For now, though, it could be seen as somewhat of a boon; we have a large number of vastly experienced players on our forum, and we see your input as an invaluable and important tool for improving all of our games – we always welcome informed feedback.

To view the PDF Stat Cards below, please click on the link for the model you wish to see. If the PDF does not load, or you wish to save it on your machine, you can ‘Right-Click > Save Target As’ to save it.
